Pre-Race Day: The Day Before the Race

Alas, here it is. Here it is. I went with a couple friends to Huntington Beach to register for the marathon this morning. That basically entailed getting your shirt and bib number. And then there was all the free stuff. One of my favorite things about races, by far. Ha.

I haven't gotten any homework done today. I've been too busy prepping for the race. Got my sports drinks, my CamelBak washed, running clothes washed, batteries charged, found my sanity--it's been quite the productive day.

I guess I don't have a whole lot to say. Other than that I'm PUMPED for tomorrow. Forget the Super Bowl--I'll take a race any day. In 20 years, I'm not going to remember the Super Bowl. In fact, I don't think anyone will. I will however, remember the marathon. Guess it's kinda hard to forget something like that though. :P

Waking up in 11 hours. Going to bed in 3. Eating dinner in 1.

Got a hot date with 26.2 miles in 13.5.

Let's do this.

The Last Run

Well, that was it. Just this morning I went on a short 2-mile run; the last run I'll have until the marathon.

CRAZY.

I'm not entirely sure about this one. I mean, I've been training. And my runs have been really great lately. And I feel like I'm in pretty good shape. That and I've done a marathon once before, so I know I can do it. That's not the issue.

My main concern is the fact that I got sick and missed five weeks of training back in November. Because of it the longest run I've done in training (for this marathon) is 16 miles. So... we'll see. I'ma have to look up all the details and see what aid stations there are. I'd bring a CamelBak and fill it with water, but the one I have is moldy from the last marathon. Sick, I know.

All in all, I'm pretty excited. Training for a marathon is by far the worst part, and hey--I'm all done. Praise. The. Lord.

So... here we go. Let's DO this.

12 Days!

That's right--12 days until I run my second marathon. I had a 16-mile run last night, and it actually went fairly well. My shins were bothering me for the first few miles, but they got better after that. Good thing too, 'cause running 16 miles with shin splints ain't fun. Heck, it might not even be possible. Ha.

I ran two miles tonight--and that went well also. Fortunately my training's been at its peak for a while now, and with the marathon two weeks away, it looks like I'll be all right. Come to think of it, I'm really looking forward to this marathon. Coastline run, bands at every mile, a sweet surfboard medal--I can dig it!

35 Days!

Remember when I signed up to run another marathon, despite the fact that I didn't have the time to train for one?

Well, that time was last fall. Going into it, I thought, No worries. I totally have time to train for a marathon. And then I got further into the semester... and WAM! Before I knew it, I'd missed nine out of the last ten Saturday morning training runs with the marathon team. The best (or worst, depending on how you look at it) part is... I've already paid a pretty considerable amount of money to run the marathon, and there's no way I'm getting my money back at this point.

Long story short, I've been training for this marathon. It's called the Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, California. 5:30 a.m. Super Bowl Sunday. Heck yes.

Unfortunately, I got sick for about five weeks throughout November and part of December, so my training took a big hit from that one. Then there were some injuries, and other miscellaneous stuff that tried getting in my way. However, I'm still excited to run this marathon, and I've been running pretty solidly for the last few weeks.

With 35 days left... we'll see how it goes!
